Welcome
Welcome to the Luton Movie Makers 2002-2014 (RIP) archive website, It was the club for all movie makers in the Luton area.

Movie
The term "Movie" is used to include all forms of moving audio-visuals such as film, TV, video (all analogue and digital forms), animation and computer based digital video.

The Aims were:-

(a) to encourage people to take up movie making throughout the area

(b) to improve knowledge and skills in digital movie making

(c) to produce movies of local and general interest

(d) to provide shared facilities for the production and replay of movies including transmission over L&D Community Network.

Membership
Membership of the Club was open to any person over the age of 18 years. Juniors (under 18) were allowed (free) if accompanied by a responsible adult. There was an annual subscription for regular members. There were student discounts. See Some Members

The Committee
The Club was run by an elected committee consisting of Chairperson, Secretary and Treasurer and several other elected members. Sub-committees and working groups were formed from time to time as needed.

Meetings
Weekly networking meetings were held at the Hat Factory in Bute Street, Luton Town Centre Tel: 01582 878100 on Thursday evenings at 6.30pm to 8.30pm.

Activities
A Programme of events and activities was drawn up annually and meetings were held regularly throughout the year. Typical activities included: Movie Making Evenings/Casablanca Club; Competitions; Scripting short plays for our own films and taking part in them. Attending workshops and courses about digital movie making; Filming local events; Maintaining a Local Film Library/Archive; (Sample Online Movies), Having inter-club meetings and film showings, putting on Film Shows; Having speakers on various aspects of films and film making; Running workshops for beginners and courses on movie making for the community; Running special projects. Reviews of Camcorders and other film making equipment, etc. There were an Annual General Meetings.

Other Benefits
The club had a Constitution and an Equal Opportunities Policy. It was affiliated to The IAC and its members received the benefits of this, e.g. shared copy of Film & Video Maker Magazine, inter-club activities, etc. The club offered discount purchasing schemes for selected film making items. Typically these included "consumable" items such as video tape and DVD.
The Volunteer Scheme, part-supported (in 2004/5) by Luton Borough Council and Luton Cultural Services Trust (2011), was aimed at supporting those who want to get experience in filming and editing and provided travel and subsistence expenses for covering approved events in Luton.
We set up our own shared library of copyright-free homemade audio clips, music and background pictures which are available to members at minimal cost (e.g. 30p).
The club had outings to: other local clubs; events such as VideoForum / Broadcast Video Expo and places of interest to film makers. The club used to get a copy of the IAC Magazine "Film and Video Maker" for members to peruse.
