SUMMARY
It is the last few questions of the last round of a Quiz Night. How will the "Oddballs Team" get on?
CastSCRIPT
A Comedy Film "QUIZ NIGHT
Situation:
The action involves the last few questions of the last round of a Quiz Night.
The team being filmed are the "Oddballs" (or whatever)
Team members:
Clever one who knows all the answers but is very shy and submissive (say Anthony)
Noisy one who knows none of the answers but thinks he does and is a bit of a bully (say Scott)
Team captain who struggles to keep control of an increasingly argumentative team (say Frank)
Other members who also grow noisy and frustrated (Paul, Dan, Steve, Nina etc)
Question master - always out of shot, (Peter)
Team members are closely sitting around a table, ideally in the basement.
Oddball team are all looking attentively towards the QM
QM Well, were getting towards the end so here are the last few questions of this General Knowledge round..
Question seven. What animals liver is deadly poisonous and must not be eaten?"
Oddballs Looking puzzled (quiet)
Anthony (quietly) "I think it might be the polar bear"
Scott "No surely not, more Im pretty sure its a baboon!"
A short, quiet discussion occurs.
Frank decides to go for the baboon.
QM "Answers please ------ Oddballs"
Frank (unconvincingly) "Er Baboon"
QM "the answer is Polar Bear"
Anthony head in hands says nothing. A few disgruntled murmurings but nothing more.
QM "question eight. Who was British prime minister after Churchill in 1955?"
Oddballs. Anthony says nothing while a mild argument takes place as to whether it is Macmillan or Douglas-Hume. Scott is getting a bit insistent about Macmillan. Small pause the Anthony says "surely it is Eden".
They all look at Anthony who looks down.
Frank calls for a vote and Macmillan wins.
QM "Answers please ------ Oddballs"
Frank "Macmillan"
QM "The answer is EDEN"
Growing dissention in the team. Frank tries hard to control them.
QM "OK last but one question. What is the next number in series 1,3,5,7,11"
Anthony (unconvincingly) "I think it may be 13"
Oddballs start to get animated as Scott thinks 15 and everyone thinks it may be 17. It starts to get noisy and Frank is having trouble controlling them.
Other tables saying hush and quiet and shut up.
Frank goes with the majority (17)
QM "Answers please ------ Oddballs"
Frank "17"
QM "The answer is 13 they are all prime numbers"
Oddballs rounding on Scott for ignoring Anthony. Frank has to control them.
QM "ok last question. Which of the following towns is the most easterly, Oxford, Coventry or Southampton?"
Oddballs have mass argument no consensus. Anthony says nothing. After a heated discussion, while they agree to ask Anthony and go with what he says.
Anthony says "Coventry" It then quietens down.
QM "Answers please ------ Oddballs"
Frank "Coventry"
QM "the answer is Oxford"
A stunned Oddballs team again start recriminations.
QM "Quiet please. Here are the results in first place, Grumpy old men with 78 points then Fab Four with 72, jolly Rogers with 69, Lovely ladies with 61 and lastly Oddballs with 41.
Thanks for taking part and have a safe journey home.
Oddballs all sullen and dejected, then
Frank (to everyone) "What did you think then?"
Scott "I think good!"
Everyone in complete contrast to what happened in the quiz says things like Yes, Great , enjoyable, well played. Plenty of smiles.
Frank "OK see you all next week"
Last shot shows the empty table with screwed up papers.
